MLS prepares archives for donation to academic and cultural institutions and assists donors in securing the maximum allowable tax-deductible contribution for their donation.
Two types of donations – items donated by the heirs of the creator, and donated materials not created by donor. Collections are donated to libraries and institutions because:
▪ There is recognition that the material has historical significance.
▪ There is a desire to preserve the legacy; particularly when the collection relates to the life and career of a composer, performer, or music historian/musicologist.
▪ There is a tax deduction available to the donor.
